2020 Camp REinvented
The recent COVID-19 has left many friends and families in a state of panic and fear. Now more than ever we need to inspire the next generation of girls to think creatively, collaborate, and innovate as we tackle some of the biggest challenges humanity has ever faced. This Innovation Camp will take place for 4 weeks after school 2 days each week (Tuesday and Thursday) from 3:30 - 5:30. We will feature several team bonding exercises, followed by machine learning and mobile app-programming activities, and inspirational videos about the future of creative innovators.
We are hosting online zoom-room meetings with up to 45 girls and providing access to a camp Google classroom that will have daily links to Google documents with lesson plans the girls can follow as we progress throughout the camp. At the end, the girls will work in groups of three developing their own Google slide, Google site websites to present their Hackathon ideas for inventions that will help our disease-stricken society.
April 14 we asked the high school principal, Mr. Cartnal, to send a message to the elementary school principals inviting girls in grades 3-6 to register for the camp. We had over 60 responses. The parents were asked to join our Remind to receive the weekly code and reminder to jump on the secure Zoom meeting.
All the activities in RED are games to build camaraderie. These bonding activities are important because they are also problem-solving skills they will need when coding.
